What’s up, Kansas City!
We are finally getting a break from the brutal midwest heat this weekend, and we could not be more excited! We’re ready to celebrate with some fun out on the town, so let’s get into it.
Friday kicks off with one of the summer’s most anticipated traditions: the Leavenworth County Fair. Located in Tonganoxie, this classic fair brings together everything you’d expect—livestock shows, carnival rides, rodeo events, and plenty of fair food. It’s a great way to slow things down and enjoy a bit of small-town charm just outside the city.
If you're more into art and energy, First Fridays in the Crossroads Arts District are always a standout. Local galleries, shops, and vendors open their doors for a lively evening of creativity and community. It’s the perfect opportunity to take in Kansas City’s art scene while enjoying live music, street performers, and food trucks.
Also starting on Friday and running through the weekend is Barks in the Bottoms, a dog-friendly event in the historic West Bottoms. This monthly gathering blends shopping, live music, drinks, and a whole lot of dogs, creating a unique and relaxed evening atmosphere that’s quickly become a local favorite.
To round out Friday night, alt-rock fans will want to head to KC LIVE! for a FREE Linkin Park tribute concert. This one’s 21 and over and promises a high-energy throwback experience for anyone who still remembers every word to “In the End.”
On Saturday, the Kansas City Taco Festival returns and runs through Sunday, also at KC LIVE! This two-day event features more than 25 food vendors, tequila tastings, live entertainment, kids activities, and more. It’s an immersive food festival experience that’s hard to beat—especially for taco lovers.
Families may also want to swing by the Back to School Bash at Legends Shopping Center on Saturday. This event offers games, entertainment, giveaways, and shopping specials to help kick off the school year in a fun and stress-free way.
Finally, for live music fans, Knuckleheads is hosting JAM, a tribute show combining the best of Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. With electric performances, familiar hits, and a high-energy crowd, it’s a solid pick to close out your Saturday night.
