Is it Time to Declutter your Home?

When your house is clean and organized, it leaves you feeling motivated, accomplished, and happy, but the opposite is also true. When your house begins to fill with clutter, it can have a massive impact on your mental health. With the current state of our city/country/world, having a place of solace in your home is increasingly important. With school and workplace situations in an ever-changing status, the possibility of whole families schooling/working from home becomes more and more likely. That being said, while the weather is warm and it is still easy to utilize outdoor spaces, now is an excellent time to take inventory of your home and make sure that your spaces are organized and ready to go for this fall. Like many things in life, organization is a journey, not a destination and we’d like to help you with your journey as much as we can. At the bottom of the page is a list of local resources that you can contact for help and we will also be hosting our first Trash Bash dumpster event on September 19th to provide you with a place to dispose of all of the things you need to remove from your house, so mark your calendar and prepare your items to bring in!

It may sound dramatic, but recent studies have shown that clutter in your home can compromise your perception of “home” and ultimately your feelings of satisfaction with life. These same studies show linked impacts between clutter and low subjective well-being, unhealthy eating, less efficient visual processing, and less efficient thinking! There really is no down-side to organizing except that it can be overwhelming to do. Sometimes getting started is the hardest thing to do, so head to Netflix and turn on a little “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” and get inspired! Remember that being organized is a journey, not a destination, so don’t feel overwhelmed or defeated when you can’t 100% organize your life within a week. Give yourself grace and try to create habits that will lead to a more organized lifestyle in the long run. If there is any way the Long Real Estate Team can help you in this ever-changing season, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and we will do what we can to help or connect you with someone who can!
