Trader Joeโ€™s is finally preparing to open its newest Johnson County store on September 2, finally giving Merriam its first and only grocery store in nearly 10 years since Hen House closed in 2018. This is Trader Joeโ€™s third location in the Kansas City area, but the first one on the west side of town. This addition to the growing Merriam Grand Station project will soon be followed by an Aldi just a half mile down the road, as well as more than 200 apartments units, over 12,000 square feet of retail space, one to two sit-down restaurants, green space and walking paths.

The Kansas City Current announced its inaugural Rails to Riverfront 5K and 10K coming up on Saturday, September 27. The all-abilities community race will start and finish at Current Landing and celebrate KC's growing riverfront and the expansion of the streetcar line. "Current Landing was designed to be a place where people come together to celebrate, connect and create lasting memories, and Rails to Riverfront is another exciting way we're bringing that vision to life," said Head of Experience at Current Landing Ashley Kraus.ย

Kansas City Public Schools celebrated a major milestone with a groundbreaking at Hale Cook Elementary, beginning the next phase of improvements to the century-old neighborhood school. District leaders say the project reflects growing enrollment, renewed confidence in neighborhood schools, and what they hope is a long-term investment in public education across Kansas City. Plans include four new classrooms, a collaboration space, renovated cafeteria and bathroom areas, and a more secure entrance.
