What’s up, Kansas City! We hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day Weekend, even if it was quite rainy. As we head into June this weekend, there is nothing but clear skies and sunshine ahead which means it is time for some summer festivals!
Friday is all about easing into the weekend, and what better way than by strolling through the Prairie Village Art Show? It’s been a tradition since 1957, and it’s not just for art lovers—there’s live music, kids’ activities, and food and drinks that make the whole thing feel more like a neighborhood block party with seriously good taste. If you’d rather be poolside, Liberty Community Center is throwing their annual Poolside Palooza. It’s family-friendly, full of games, music, and diving board chaos—the good kind. And if pasta, pizza, and Italian wine are more your vibe, Festa Italiana at Zona Rosa kicks off Friday evening with all the carbs your heart desires. It’s a full-on celebration of Italian-American culture, with music, dancing, and enough gelato to melt your stress away.
On Saturday, the kids get to call the shots. KidZfest at Worlds of Fun kicks off and runs through June 15th, with extra-special programming designed to blow little minds (and probably tire them out too). We’re talking dance parties, character meet-and-greets, and kid-focused fun layered onto the usual roller coasters and water rides. Later that night, when the sky darkens and the kids are finally asleep—or at least mellowed out—you can sneak away for Public Night at Powell Observatory. If you’ve never looked through a giant telescope at Saturn’s rings or a distant galaxy, this is your chance. It’s one of those quietly magical experiences that makes you feel like a tiny dot in the best possible way.
Finally, Sunday is about slowing things down. Head to the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden in Loose Park for Rose Day & Rose Show 2025. It’s a beautifully chill event with live music, ice cream, and the kind of photo ops that practically beg to be your next phone background. Thousands of blooms will be on display—each one vying for a blue ribbon, of course—and the whole event feels like a love letter to summer and all things lovely.
