1️⃣ 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞-𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚. Current State Coffee is a collaboration between the founders of Seleno Coffee and Messenger Coffee, who are excited for the vibes that emanate from the red brick building’s aesthetic. Open and arched ceilings give it a rustic feel, as well as a barrel plank roof and concrete floors. The cafe will seat up to 70 customers with outdoor patio space, and offer pounds of beans wholesale in addition to ready-to-drink lattes and pastries.

2️⃣ 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤, 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫’𝐬. The owners of Tanner’s Bar & Grill are scheduled to open a new sandwich restaurant this week called Sammie’s Kitchen & Bar in Stanley Station off of 151st Street and 69 Highway. In addition to sandwiches, its not-too-fancy, not-too-casual menu includes pizzas, salads, and build-your-own hot dogs. And make sure you save room for dessert - a creme brulee doughnut or a chocolate chip waffle sundae. Yum!

3️⃣ 𝐀 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬. For decades the American Royal, one of the world’s largest barbecue competitions, was held in the West Bottoms before shifting to Arrowhead Stadium and then ending up at the Kansas Speedway. Longtime American Royal competitor and certified judge Vernon McClanahan is bringing barbecue back to the neighborhood where it all began. The inaugural two-day KC Smoke and Flavor Festival will debut May 1-2 next year, with a barbecue competition and full-blown festival atmosphere that welcomes everyone.
