Today we’re talking about a local coffee shop expanding to a second location ☕️, making elections more accessible for Spanish-speaking voters 🇪🇸, and Kansas City’s short-term rental ordinances getting a facelift 🏡 before the 2026 FIFA World Cup ⚽️

1️⃣  𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐇𝐚𝐡𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟑𝟔𝟓𝟓 𝐖. 𝟔𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭. 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐞. The spot will take over the space that was previously home to Simon’s Pasta off of Shawnee Mission Parkway and 63rd Street. Owner Jason Presley said he’s hoping to soft-open the drive-thru in January and have the entire space — with roughly 30 seats inside and additional 30 for its outside patio — ready for customers in the spring.

2️⃣ 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡. On Monday, the Prairie Village City Council approved a resolution brought forth by the ACLU of Kansas that calls on the Secretary of State and the Johnson County Election Office to translate voting materials into Spanish. They are the second city in Johnson County to approve the measure, following Roeland Park’s unanimous approval in September. We love to see such important representation and inclusivity in our community! 

3️⃣ 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲. An updated ordinance in Kansas City aims to make it easier for residents to host visitors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. Under the new rules, Kansas City can declare a “major event period” of up to 90 days when an event is anticipated to create a shortage of lodging opportunities. During the World Cup next summer, city officials say the expectation is a surge of visitors will bring the city beyond its current hotel capacity.
