On Monday, the Prairie Village City Council approved a resolution brought forth by the ACLU of Kansas that calls on the Secretary of State and the Johnson County Election Office to translate voting materials into Spanish. They are the second city in Johnson County to approve the measure, following Roeland Parkโ€™s unanimous approval in September. An updated ordinance in Kansas City aims to make it easier for residents to host visitors during the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. Under the new rules, Kansas City can declare a โ€œmajor event periodโ€ of up to 90 days when an event is anticipated to create a shortage of lodging opportunities. During the World Cup next summer, city officials say the expectation is a surge of visitors will bring the city beyond its current hotel capacity.
