𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤: a music festival is having its inaugural show 🎸, a second location for a beloved local burger joint 🍔, and 🆕plans for one of Overland Park’s oldest business parks.

1️⃣𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝. After building a dedicated following through its video series highlighting KC bands over the last seven years, the nonprofit is extending beyond the digital platform with its first-ever Flew the Coop Fest set for August 29. Flew the Coop has put on several fundraising shows over the years, but this festival marks a major expansion, spanning two venues in the West Bottoms with 20 Kansas City artists. Beyond live music, the festival will also welcome food trucks, whiskey tasting, artists and makers, and locally grown produce.

2️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩. The original location of Danny’s Burger Shack was established on N. Oak Trafficway in 2022, and owner Joe Sessel quietly opened the new location last week to much acclaim. There is no microwave to be found on the premises, and the fresh beef delivered multiple times a week exclusively from Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska is never frozen. Danny’s makes their sauces, breading and pickles in-house. “The secret sauce is that everything’s fresh,” said Sessel. We can’t wait to try it! 

3️⃣ 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤’𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝-𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬. Development firm GSR filed on July 22 for a $500 million redevelopment to add housing and retail to Corporate Woods, though the city has yet to schedule the project's first appearance before the Planning Commission. The proposal would wrap around existing office buildings, filling surface parking and undeveloped land with about 30k square feet of retail and 1,205 residential units. Developers also plan to incorporate significant greenspace with a trail network that will connect to the city’s 52-acre Corporate Woods Founders' Park.
