Today we’re talking about a local bookstore and bar not being ready to end their story, Kansas City’s 2026  FIFA World Cup matches, and a local icon taking his last bow as Scrooge this holiday season.

1️⃣  𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲. Beloved bookstore and bar Afterword announced last week that it will be closing its Crossroads location after the building at 19th & Grand was sold to new ownership, but their story isn’t over yet! Manager Kate Hall is hopeful that with a strong community behind them and several promising prospects for a new space, their next chapter simply has yet to be written.

2️⃣ 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐅𝐈𝐅𝐀 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐩 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝! As the smallest host city of the tournament, we are starting off with a bang hosting Argentina, one of the favorites to win the tournament, versus the Netherlands in the group stage of the tournament. We will also have a shot at hosting Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo in a Round of 32 game. As for the quarterfinal match to be held in Kansas City — it easily should be the most-watched sporting event ever held in the city.

Johnson took over the lead role in 2000 after playing many other characters over the KC Rep production’s 40-year history, including Jacob Marley, Charles Dickens and Old Joe.
