The happiest headlines in Kansas City are hot off the press! Today we’re talking about Missouri’s Teacher of the Year, a new Chiefs franchise record from Monday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and a new bookstore and cafe in downtown Mission.
- A Hickman Mills teacher named Missouri Teacher of the Year:
Congratulations to Hickman Mills’ social studies teacher Kim Sixta on being named Missouri’s Teacher of the Year! The recipient of the award is chosen by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, who said in a September press release that Sixta was selected due to the depth of her “civic-focused instruction” and her lifelong impact on students. Sixta has been teaching in the district for 28 years and said she was “so humbled by this experience.”
- Travis Kelce set a new franchise record at the Chiefs vs. Jaguars game on Monday:
Despite a Chiefs loss on Monday night in a close game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City still has something to celebrate. Mr. Redwood himself, tight end Travis Kelce, has already set franchise records for receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, and on Monday night he set the record for most all-purpose yards with his first catch of the game at 9 yards. Congratulations and happy (belated) birthday, Travis!
- A new bookstore, coffee shop and lunch spot just opened in downtown Mission:
A new hangout and bookstore called The Book Club opened Saturday in downtown Mission. It’s part-lunch spot, part-coffee shop, part-bookstore, and open daily from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. The former Paulie D’s Pizza location at 5735 Johnson Drive now offers espresso from Valor Coffee in Atlanta and BookTok’s most popular titles (maybe check the spice meter on those), plus some classics. We can’t wait to check it out!
