Community Spotlight – Austie Strong

In talking with our clients and friends, we often hear about some awesome things that you are doing and we have decided we would like to help spread the word, so we have started a new section of our newsletter called the Community Spotlight. If you have a cause or passion you would like to share, just email us at [email protected] to submit. It doesn’t have to be a charity – we want to hear about all kinds of awesome things like marathons, projects or perhaps you’ve taken the trip of a lifetime and want to share. We are inspired all the time by what we hear about and we think others will be too!

Our first Community Spotlight is on the Austie Strong foundation. This foundation was started by friends of ours whose son was diagnosed with Leukemia. They started the Austie Strong Golf Tournament to help local families who are battling childhood cancer. Here’s a little more about their story…

Austie was diagnosed with Leukemia in September of 2013.  We want this day to be a celebration of Austin’s strength, a day to recognize the gratitude of healthy children and an opportunity to help make a difference in some of the hardest days for families dealing with childhood cancer.

Austin finished his treatment last December of 2016 and is a healthy boy!  However, it will continue to be our goal to pay it forward and to help provide support to other families with children who are battling cancer.  Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to The Division of Hemotology and Oncology at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Supporting Kids Foundation, and to parent bags for families unexpectedly admitted to Children’s Mercy oncology ward.

The Austie Strong Foundation is about helping local families fight childhood cancer and helping fund childhood cancer research in Kansas City. All money raised by the Austie Strong Foundation stays in the Kansas City area and is used to support our mission of helping improve the lives of children and families undergoing cancer treatment. This includes treatment research options for leukemia, expenses related to medical bills and the unexpected financial burden that hits a family when a child is diagnosed with cancer.
